Fair & Safe Fundraising

Keep it legal

Fundraising should be fun, but it’s important that everything is safe and legal, for everyone involved. Plan ahead, and you’ll get things right.

Stay Safe

The health and safety of all of our supporters is a huge priority, and we want you to be safe whilst fundraising. If you’re considering taking on a fundraising challenge or activity please take all the relevant safety precautions. We strongly advise you carry out only low risk events and activities – for more information regarding health and safety visit hse.gov.uk. Please also be aware that no insurance cover is provided by Cash for Kids or Bauer Media, so please carefully consider your needs and put appropriate insurance in place.

Please also make sure you’ve read our full fundraising terms and conditions.

Physical Activities

If your fundraising involves you taking part in a physical activity this may expose you to the risk of personal injury and it is your responsibility to ensure that they are fit enough to take part.

To minimise the risk of causing harm to yourself, we ask that you:

  • Take care to ensure that, to the best of your knowledge, you are fit to participate in the activity
  • Refrain from taking part if you are suffering from any disease or medical condition which may prevent you from safely taking part or which may be aggravated if you do take part
  • Refrain from taking part if you feel unwell/are in pain during the activity
  • Seek suitable medical advice prior to starting the activity and refrain from taking part if you are advised not to

If completing physical activity (such as running, jogging, cycling) alone, you should be mindful of your personal safety and take necessary precautions to protect your safety. You should consider:

  • Completing the activity with another person
  • Notifying friends/family that you are completing the activity and informing them of the route you are planning to take
  • Wearing a tracking device or ensuring tracking apps are enabled on devices that you will be carrying whilst you are completing the activity (e.g. “Find My” on an iPhone)
  • Ensuring that any headphones that you are wearing are at a volume level that still enables you to hear what is happening around you
  • Using well-lit routes and not using routes that are quiet, dark and out of sight of a main road

Restrictions for Lotteries, Raffles and Tombolas

  • All tickets must be sold during one event, or to people at one place of work (multiple buildings at one site are ok but multiple sites are not)
  • No more than £500 of the proceeds can be used to purchase prizes
  • No more than £100 of the proceeds can be used to cover operational costs (e.g. printing tickets)
  • Tickets must be sold at the event/on the premises and the result is declared at the event/on the premises
  • There are no rollovers

More detailed guidelines can be viewed here, or please contact us for advice.

Get Permission

If you want to collect in public places then please remember if you are collecting at a shopping centre, supermarket etc., you’ll need the owner’s permission. You cannot do a street collection without a license from the local authority.

Photos and Video

If you plan to take photos of other people at your fundraiser, please make attendees aware.

Speak to Businesses

Approach companies/organisations, including your employer, to donate products that you can raffle off and ask about match-funding where your company could match what you raise.

Promotion

Please keep in mind that we are a children’s charity when planning ways to fundraise, so try and stay away from events with adult themes. Please call us for clarification if you’re unsure.

We’re happy for you to use the Cash for Kids logo online or in any promotional materials but there are some guidelines. Please contact us for details. You should also display our charity numbers on any materials – Cash for Kids registered charity 1122062, SC041421 & SC003334.

Gift Aid

Encourage anyone who is a UK Taxpayer and donates on your page to include Gift Aid as this will benefit the charity with no additional cost to you or your supporters. We can claim 25p from HMRC for every £1 donated.
