A Summer of Pride for LGBTQ+ young people

We’re proud to support organisations creating safer spaces, practical help and new opportunities for LGBTQ+ children and young people across the UK.
As the official charity of Hits Radio Pride, we’ve awarded thousands of pounds in grants to community groups working directly with young people and their families.
The need for this support remains high. According to the Office for National Statistics, around one in 10 people aged 16 to 24 in the UK identify as lesbian, gay or bisexual. Research by The Trevor Project also found high levels of anxiety, depression and discrimination among LGBTQ+ young people, with more than one in three respondents saying they had missed school because they felt unsafe.
Our grants are helping local organisations provide inclusive spaces, essential services and experiences where young people can build confidence, make friends and feel able to be themselves.
Making a difference
Brigstowe in Bristol received £1,200 to provide essentials for families living with HIV, including food, clothing, travel and baby formula.
“We were so grateful to receive these grants from Cash for Kids … it was so nice to have a bit of extra cash to ensure they have enough food without worrying too much.” – Phoebe Roberts, Brigstowe
The Kite Trust received £2,000 for residential experiences where LGBTQ+ young people could build confidence, make friends and enjoy new activities in a safe setting.

“Thank you so much for the grant from Cash for Kids. These spaces give LGBTQ+ young people a space to be themselves … these residential experiences can be really life changing!” – Pip Gardner, The Kite Trust
Hart Gables used a £1,920 grant to run drama workshops and healthy cooking sessions for young people in Teesside and County Durham.

“The funding will give our young people an opportunity to grow in confidence … and ensure that no one goes hungry and they can fully join in.” – Jack Cummings, Hart Gables
Meanwhile, Cumbria Education Trust received almost £3,000 for LGBTQ+ inclusion workshops with The Proud Trust, helping pupils and staff improve their understanding of equality, relationships and family diversity.

“The workshops were very well received, with students and staff actively reflecting and developing their understanding as the sessions progressed.” – Teacher
These grants, and many others like them, are helping young people access support, build confidence and feel less alone.
